Charles Gordon Ballew, Sr.

Charlie Ballew, 91, of Fountain Inn, husband of the late Betty Jean Sellars Ballew, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, December 12, 2016.

Born in Lyman, SC, Mr. Ballew was a son of the late Dillard Ballew and the late Virginia Kirby Ballew. Mr. Ballew was of the Baptist faith and a long-time member of First Baptist Church Simpsonville where he served as a deacon and was honored as a deacon emeritus, taught Sunday School for over 40 years and enjoyed singing in the choir. He served our country during WWII in the United States Army. Mr. Ballew served as a Simpsonville City Council Member over 20 years and was a member of the Jaycees where he served as President and was honored as “Man of the Year.” As a graduate of Furman University he touched the lives of many over 39 years with the Greenville County School System with most of his time as Principal at Simpsonville Elementary. He was an avid sports fan and officiated youth sports for over 42 years.

Mr. Ballew is survived by his daughter Cheryl Christine Foster of Fountain Inn; one son, Rev. Charles G. (Kat) Ballew, Jr. of Fountain Inn; four sisters, Martha Jane Brown, Imogene (Allen) Smith, Carolyn Garrison and Ivy (TC) Abbott all of Simpsonville; one brother, Claude Kirby (Thelma) Ballew of Fountain Inn; and four grandchildren, John C. (Courtney) Foster, Charles G. (Laura) Ballew III, Derek (Kiersten) Ballew and Josh Ballew; and five great-grandchildren, Riley Fincher-Foster, Charlie Ballew, Will Ballew, Aspen Ballew and Landon Ballew.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Keith Ballew, and one son-in-law, John Marvin Foster.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Main Worship Center at First Baptist Church Simpsonville with Randy Harling officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church starting at 1:30 PM.

Burial will follow in the Simpsonville City Cemetery.
